Reading Strategies

1.) ​Setting a Purpose
Learning Intention: I can set a purpose or purposes to guide my understanding

2.) Accessing Background Knowledge and Making Connections
Learning Intention: I can use background knowledge and make connections to help me understand what I read.

3.) Monitoring Comprehension
Learning Intention: I can monitor comprehension to improve my understanding

4.) Visualizing 
Learning Intention: I can visualize what I read to improve my understanding.

5.) Determining What's Important
Learning Intention: I can determine what's important to improve my understanding of what I read.

6.) Making Inferences
Learning Intention: I can make inferences while reading by using my background knowledge and evidence from the text.

7.) Synthesize and Evaluate
Learning Intention: I can synthesize and evaluate my use of reading strategies to determine the big idea of what I'm reading.  (S + E = BIG IDEA)
