I thought the boy was unusually small but actually they were big magical plants.
Did you ever think of how the plants grew so big? Or even what kind of plants they're? I still am really confused of where they came from the west.
I never really wondered why Wesley was picked on so much by being normal. He doesn't like pizza and soda so what? It wouldn't change him or make him better or anything if he did. Everyone has different tastes. Yes I know he was the only one. But their are millions of people around the world who don't like pizza or soda either. Also whats so bad about not wanting to shave half your hair off? You guys most likely wouldn't want to do that. Just because he's weird from such small differences doesn't make him weird at all. It's just different tastes. In a nutshell he's just really creative. If you think about it, if Wesley's weird, than so is everyone else. Just in a different form. Everyone in the world is weird in a way. You could even say someone could be weird from being normal. In the end everyone seems to like Wesley and think because of his weirdness he's cool.
Most of the ideas that I was going to post were taken by Sonic. I can honestly say that everything that I was going to write, was taken by Sonic... I can still agree with his statements though.
Sonic, I agree with everything you've said here. I agree that everyone is weird, but just in a different form.
A point that I have is that Wesley is a leader, not a follower, and because of that, he didn't follow anyone else when they got a hair cut or when he didn't like pizza or soda. And because Wesley was a leader and not a follower, he didn't care what everyone else said about him. Also, because Wesley was a leader and not a follower, he made up his own language and clothing, and in the end, Wesley ended up getting all of the kids in his school as his friends.
So, I think the moral of this story is don't change yourself just because everyone else around you is different. In the long run, everything will turn out just fine.
@ hillcrestkid12 - You said '...he didn't follow anyone else when they got a hair cut or when he didn't like pizza or soda. And because Wesley was a leader and not a follower, he didn't care what everyone else said about him. Also, because Wesley was a leader and not a follower, he made up his own language and clothing...' How do these things make him a better person in your opinion?
I thought that the book would be
I thought that the book would be about the kid moving away from his friends and working on a farm and all of a sudden a bush opens a portal to this magical place called "Weslandia" And there it would be like he can do whatever he wants and he can go anywhere he wants.
@ ATV BOY - Why did you initially think that the book would be about this? Was your prediction at all right?
Because it looked like he was not having the funnest time in the picture. Also no it was not right because it was pretty much totally different than what I predicted.
Today, when I first looked at 'Weslandia', I thought it would be about a boy who lived on a farm. The cover showed a boy in fields of flowers and fruit, and it all made sense. But after I read the book, I realized that the farm that I had thought he lived on was actually a garden of special fruit-producing flowers. The plants grew high above the boy's head, and he built stuctures and medicines out of the plant's resources. I was surprised by the book's discriptive language.
@Ice stone yea it does seem like a farm I never thought of that.
Why we're you surprised by the books dicsriptive language?
I did not think it's was a farm because from my experience farms don't look like that but like @basketballpro I thought he was small or for me more specifically he was turned really small,George shrinks small
I think that Wesley is pretty strange... He's also different, but who wants to be normal right? He realizes that he doesn't need to be like everyone else, or have the same haircut. He wants to be himself, so that everyone will like him for who he really is. People bullied him because he wasn't like them, but Wesley wanted to be himself. He created his own language and his own cilvilizatation, and people thought that was cool. So after that him being himself, he went from no friends to a lot of friends. What I'm trying to say is that no matter how much people find you strange because your different, keep being yourself so that the other people will find out how cool you really are.
@ Vantage82 - Why do you think Wesley is strange?
When I first read this book I thought that Wesley was a strange and unusual boy who had a different perspective from everybody else. I agree with vantage. Who wants to be normal? Think about it this way: everybody at school has the same haircut. They think it is cool. Would you get that haircut because everybody else has it? You are different from everyone else. That is a good thing. If everybody was the same then the word different or unique would have no meaning. I think this book has more meaning than people think. I read it a second time over and I thought of the book a different way. I wonder what the author was trying to say? What is the deep meaning?
@ Oscar the Grouch - What do YOU think the author is trying to say?
Today, when I saw Weslandia first, I thought it would be about one boys adventure. But after, it is about Wesley had a garden of special plants. At first people doesn't like Wesley because he was strange, but after Wesley had special garden, everyone likes him. I though this book was interesting book.
What was super interesting about this book and why?
It was interesting that he makes own language, because I thought making own language was hard to do.
Write something about yourself. No need to be fancy, just an overview.
